First College Blog Post

Today, I worked on some of my college supplemental essays and short answer questions. At this point, I have already finished my personal statement, my UChicago essays, my Stanford essays, and a Topic B essay for University of Texas at Dallas. If I keep up this rate, I could finish almost all of my college supplements by the early action deadline. This will give me some time to relax since I'm applying to a majority of my schools regular decision. Stanford has a single-choice early action deadline, so I can't apply to any private school early.

First, I edited and revised some of my answers to Stanford's short answer questions. For me, the hardest part about writing short answers is trying to make your point clear in only 50 words or less. The good news: I have finished almost all of my supplements for Stanford. I just need to revise my extracurricular essay. Four of my schools require it, but since I'm talking about a leadership role, I can also use it for UT's short answer about leadership.

Next, I continued to write my Topic A essay for the University of Texas. It has a priority deadline of October 15, though my counselor says that it doesn't matter when I apply as long as it is before December 1. I am going to try to make this deadline because I am applying to the Polymathic Honors Program at the College of Natural Sciences. Because any major related to STEM is a popular choice among applicants to this school, I am almost certain that applicants will be applying to this honors program before the priority deadline. Therefore, I am pretty sure that competition will be high and selectivity will be low.

I took a quick break from writing because I was helping my sister write one of her short answers for the University of Southern California. Why do California schools have so many writing supplements??

Anyway, back to Texas. I continued to write another paragraph. I realize why I started writing my essays at the beginning of summer: it takes me so long to write them. My classmates think I am proactive and very motivated to write. I guess you can say that. I was proactive in knowing that I am a slow essay writer, so I gave myself a summer cushion to help me. I feel bad for saying this, but I will write Topic A later. I can't focus on one essay. I jump around between a few supplements for different schools.

I decided to write one of my Carnegie Mellon Essays. The prompt is about why I am applying to the specific school and major. I have to fit it in one page. I know that one of my biggest challenges is writing about all 3 of my majors I'm applying for. At Carnegie Mellon, you can apply for up to 3 majors. You'll most likely get into your first choice major, but I'm not taking chances. Let's see how this essay goes.
